The Defence Engineering Internship Program (DEIP) - an initiative of, and funded by, the Department of Defence
AITEC - in conjunction with the Australian Industry and Defence Network (AIDN) - has assisted 3rd or 4th year Engineering undergraduates (or equivalent) and Small to Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) to partner in the Defence Engineering Internship Program (DEIP). Initially funded for two rounds, the Department of Defence continued to support the Program for a sixth round in the 2017/18 financial year to 30 June 2018.
The intent of DEIP has been to increase engineering students' level of interest and participation in defence industry, particularly with SMEs. The program paired up to 30 selected engineering students for 12 week internships with selected defence industry SMEs from around Australia.
DEIP has been part of the Department's integrated plan to help ensure that the defence Industry has the highly-skilled workforce it needs to deliver the Government's $200 billion investment in Australia's defence capability. Australian workers will be needed to design, install, build, integrate and maintain our ships, submarines, aircraft, land vehicles, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities and information technology and cyber security as well as to support the men and women in the Australian Defence Force.
The Defence Engineering Internship Program has concluded for 2017-18.
The Department of Defence has announced that the Defence Industry Internship Program is to be established from 2018-19. Further information about this program may be found at email@example.com
